We’ve moved!
At the end of July we relocated our studio to a historic building on the corner of First Avenue and 37th Street. It was originally built to house the Kips Bay Brewing Co. and was completed in 1895.
Owned and operated by one Patrick Skelly, at its peak the brewery annually produced 100,000 barrels of ales, lager and porter. The brews were marketed under the names “Skelly Beer” and “Kipling Beer” and continued production into the 1940s, having been scaled down to “near beer” during Prohibition.
The proximity to the river was what made this site so desirable. Back in the day, the East River lapped at our back door and the barrels were just rolled out the back and loaded onto waiting ships (see poster). Now, FDR Drive (and a new high-rise) stands in the way!
